Aadhar card has with time become the need of all the people around India. It is a card which is available to everyone and would be supplied to anyone of any age, i.e., you don’t need to be a minimum of 18 years of age to avail this card. This card basically proves your identity. Photos, fingerprints, and iris are also a proof of your identity which is taken at the time of registration of the Aadhar Card backed by enrollment. However, Aadhar Card has made a dedicated website for themselves which gives you any and every information about the aadhar card. With India, the services of Aadhar cards are also getting digitalised which in turn, led to the formation of this concept of E-sign Aadhar Card.

E-sign is none other than your own signature. It is just passed through a net and thus is referred as an online electronic signature. This service is facilitated to all the aadhaar card holders helping them sign a document digitally. This service is authentic and is facilitated via aadhaar-based e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) service.

The government of India with its idea to initiate a Digital India is making its way through a tough path to ensure that India somehow enters the digital age in every aspect and everyone is well known about the whole idea. We may find that rural India isn’t enjoying the benefits of digitalization to that extend as the urban India but the government is working on the same at its best. After initiating a substitute for necessary documents like passport and voter id, now the government took this initiative to provide a substitute for your signature and thus it introduces the idea of e-signature using Aadhaar card.

To sign a document using e-sign, all you need to have is an aadhaar card and the registered mobile number used in the aadhaar card. If you got this two things, you can sign any document located in any part of the world just being back at your home.

For all the newcomers here, Aadhaar number is a 12 digit number found particularly in aadhaar card provided to an individual by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) which stands as a proof of identity and proof of address for that individual.

How do E-sign works?

The working of E-sign is quite easy and is convenient for the individuals. All they need to have been in India is an aadhaar card and a registered mobile number provided in the aadhaar card of that individual. If he/she has these two things than they can sign any document at any point of time within minutes. This procedure is widely used in India since it has been launched. We can take an example of any bank, whenever we visit the bank for opening a new account in the bank, all they ask us is to provide them our aadhaar card, it is just because aadhaar card is the only document that serves as a proof of identity as well as a proof of address, this make it be used widely throughout the nation and soon has replaced passport, pan card, and voter id. With the introduction of eKYC in it, it has become easier for an individual to showcase it as a proof of identity and thus he/she can even use it as e-sign. When you will give your 12 digit number as a proof, you will receive an OTP on your device to confirm whether it is you or not who has provided the 12 digits unique number. After it is confirmed, the process of verification ends, that’s all you need to do and yes, your fingerprint will also be used as a proof.

Difference between Electronic Signature and Digital Signature

Many a time, people do use the two term  (Electronic Signature and Digital signature) interchangeably, though both of them have different meanings itself. This is what made us speak on this topic. In simple words, Digital signature is nothing but fingerprint of an individual, all he needs is to possess a certificate-based digital ID in order to link his fingerprint with the document. The Certificate authorities(CAs) provide you two digital keys for the certificate- the public key and a private key. When an individual needs to sign a digital document, he can easily share the public key with the document holder and then can type his private key while signing the digital document. This process is very cumbersome, impractical and not viable as many of us don’t have these digital certificates and also these digital certificates doesn’t provide any additional security benefits.

Whereas, we find an electronic sign in India to be a 12 digit unique number provided to all the individuals to use it anytime they need to sign any document being back at home. All you need to have the 12 digits unique number and a registered mobile number. Any institution will accept this 12 digits unique number without any hesitation. All they will ask is this 12 digits unique number and your fingerprint. To verify all the details, you will receive an OTP on your phone. After providing it to the person, all the formalities would be cleared and you registering for any document or any bank account, will become yours in just minutes.
